Why doesn't my company appear in Google Maps?
Not appearing for your business name is different from ranking too low for a competitive service search. Start with that distinction.

Is your profile missing, or does it simply rank too low?
You have a Google Business Profile, but cannot find it for an important service. First, search directly for your business name. If the profile appears, it exists but may rank too low for the broader service search. If it does not appear, check verification, account notifications and any restrictions in Google.
A brand search is not a service search
'Janssens Roofing' and 'roofer in Antwerp' are completely different questions. With your company name, Google knows which company is meant. In a generic service term, Google chooses between dozens of profiles. Local ranking factors, competition and the location of the person searching are much more important.
Distance changes the list
Maps results are local. A company can be visible from one municipality and not from another. Your own manual search is therefore not a perfect measurement; Google takes into account the distance and context of the person searching. Do not expect the same position everywhere, even if your service area is larger.
Give Google enough profile context
Check primary and additional categories, address or service area, hours, telephone number, website, services, description and photos. A profile with minimal information makes it more difficult to interpret your activities. Complete does not mean keyword stuffing; it means providing accurate information in the right fields.
Does your website support your profile?
Do you claim to be a specialist in heat pumps on Google, but your website does not mention that service anywhere? Then your online story is less clear. Make sure that important services you actually perform are also present on the site. Do not add fake location pages that only exchange place names; create real information for real customers.
Maybe competitors are just stronger.
Your profile doesn't have to be broken. Competitors may have more reviews, more recent activity, better categories, clear service pages or years of local prominence. Local SEO is relative: your business must appear relevant and trustworthy compared with the alternatives Google can show for the same search.
Expect no immediate jump
A profile adjustment is not guaranteed to take you from position 12 to two the next day. Rankings can fluctuate and Google processes different signals over time. Improve the profile systematically, review performance at regular intervals and look at visibility, enquiries and changes in the competitive landscape instead of repeating one search every day.
Paid is not organic
Google Ads can provide paid visibility, but you cannot pay for a better organic Maps position. Be careful with agencies that promise a number-one position. An honest approach shows what you can influence and where the real competition gap is.
Frequently asked questions
Related questions, answered briefly
Why am I not visible in the Local Pack?
The profile may exist but rank too low because of distance, relevance, competition or weaker prominence signals.
Could verification be the problem?
Yes. An unverified, restricted or suspended profile may not appear normally. Check account notifications.
Can I pay for an organic Maps position?
No. Advertising buys sponsored visibility, not a better organic local ranking.
Why can I see the business at home but not elsewhere?
Local results change with the location and context of the searcher.
